In Germany, an amber or brown bottom-fermented beer produced by a few breweries in the city of Bamberg in northern Bavaria. Its unique roasted or smoked flavor results from the sue of malts that are dried over an open0fire of moist beechwood logs, a technique dating back, according to some researchers, to 1678.
