Plato

Plato. (plei'-d:o)

A saccharometer that expresses the specific gravity as the weight of extract in a 100-gram solution at a temperature of 64 °F (17.5 °C). This percentage is designated degrees Plato. The original saccharometer was devised by Balling in 1843, however his tables were slightly erroneous and were later corrected by Dr. Plato for the German Imperial Commission (Normal-Eichungskommission). Abbrev: °P.
