Ordre du Houblon
Ordre du Houblon. (ohgh'-dghe due oo-blo~')
An order founded in 1409 by Jean Sans Peur, duke of Burgundy, to honor those brewers who brewed hopped beer. The insignia of the order carried the arms of Flanders with (in the center) a gold lion surrounded by a crown of hop leaves and flowers. The listel carried the Flemish motto “Ich zuighe,” meaning “I savor.”
