Malt Floor

Malt Floor. (mohlt' flor')

In traditional-style maltings, a flat horizontal surface area where steeped barley grains are spread in layers of 10-15 centimeters to germinate.  Because they require considerable space, malting floors have been replaced by mechanical devices such as the germination box.

Syn: malting floor
