Hard Resin

Hard Resin. (hard' reh'-zin)

Amorphous substance formed from the oxidation and polymerization of alpha and beta acids during hop storage. The alpha acids gradually lose their crystalline structure, aroma, and their bittering and preservative powers. In the later stages of this conversion resinification occurs whereby hard resins are formed that are useless in the brewing process. See also: soft resins.
