Various organic or mineral substances used to ensure a clear beer by causing impurities, yeast cells, and other suspended matter to coagulate and precipitate to the bottom of the fermentation container. Isinglass, gelatin, Irish moss, bentonite, egg whites (or egg albumin), charcoal, wood chips, and casein are examples of colloidal agents used for this purpose. Syn: fining agents.
