EMP Pathway
EMP pathway. (ee-em-pee paeth'-wei)
The biochemical sequence of enzymatic reactions that produce the breakdown of glucose and other carbohydrates. It also is called glucolytic pathway because these reactions are common to both alcohol production and the anaerobic glycosis of muscle. Etym: Named after Embden, Meyerhof, and Parnas—the three men who conducted research on the mechanism of alcoholic fermentation.
