Dolo

dolo. (do'-lo)

A type of millet beer made in Africa. It is brewed locally and varies considerably from one region to another and even within the same region. Neither hopped nor filtered, it is flavored with various bitter plants such as sisal, castor-oil bean, cassia, and sometimes pimento and tobacco leaves. Jimson was also an ingredient but was eventually outlawed because of its toxicity. The sugary pulp of cassia is added to increase the alcoholic strength.
