Barley Brown's Turmoil Black IPA (Extract)

Ingredients

for 5.5 U.S. gallons (21 liters)

 

8 lb. Alexander liquid malt extract
1.5 lb. dry malt extract
1.0 lb. 40L crysatal malt
1.1 lb. Weyermann® Carafa® special II malt
4.25 oz. Columbus pellet hops (steeped with specialty grains)
1.4 oz. Simcoe pellet hops 12.8% a.a. (first wort hopping)
1.6 oz. magnum pellet hops 12.8% a.a. (60 min)
0.9 oz. Simcoe pellet hops 12.2% a.a. (60 min)
1.15 oz. Amarillo pellet hops 8.4% a.a. (30 min)
0.9 oz. Cascade pellet hops 5% a.a. (15 min)
0.9 oz. Cascade pellet hops 5% a.a. (2 min)
1.75 oz. Cascade pellet hops 5% a.a. (flame off)
4.25 oz. Amarillo whole hops 8.4% a.a. (dry hop)
1 Vial Wyeast 1056 American Ale Yeast

Directions

Place specialty malts and mash hops in a bag and soak in 1.5 gallons of 150 ºF water for 45 minutes. Drain bag without squeezing and add running to the boil

Boil for 75 minutes.

Ferment at 70-72 ºF, transfer and age at 64 ºF for 8 days then keg.

Dry hop with 4.25 oz Amarillo whole hops
